I decided to do Devo – Jocko Homo which was a music video that pioneered the music video industry. The song is sung by Devo and is about how mankind is taking steps backward a devolving (devo) instead of taking steps forward. Jocko Homo means “monkey man” which is what the whole is revolved around. It uses phrases such as the second line in the song “We lost our tails” expressing that we’re loosing the ground we had on evolving forward and line 11-12, “We’re pinheads now, We are not whole”. This line states that our heads have no brains and we going back to what we used to be which he says is “apes”. He wants us to think about the future and make sure we’re all together taking steps forward and not going back to where we were all apes. He also wants us to recognize that we’re all men or women and that if the apes could of done it back then, then we can do it now and even better. We all have to recognize this type of hypnotized state we’re in and stop devolving. With this new area of music videos it led to it being a thing that stuck making it so everyone was doing it later on. The song Jocko Homo is just one of the many songs that led to us today making music videos for songs. Overall the song does a good job setting a statement how we are devolving and taking steps backwards.
