La Jetée 1962 film

1962 Film La Jetée

The 1962 film, La Jetee was made by Chris Markers, who has made many other short movies and books. Its set is set after WWII that
resulted in a nuclear holocaust making everyone retreat underground. La Jetee does a good job letting you know the scene of what is
happening with its photos. Also it is made by almost only black and white still photos to let you know what is going on. There is only one
moving frame in the 28 minute film which lasts about 10 seconds. Its tone is very dark and murky since its pictures are very dark and music is very dramatic. While watching it the words and pictures were completely out of since which made it harder to know what went with what. It also doesn’t help the film is in a different language most of the time your just listening to it and watching different pictures pop up. Since there is no clear dialogue the voiceover is the only thing to help us know what is going on. La Jetee does a good job though at getting people’s attention whenever someone is watching it and will have a lastly impact on people who watch it. Since it connects to people’s memories, and how they make people’s lives. If people don’t have memories we are nothing since the memories we make everyday are what makes the true us in the future. I didn’t like the film since the mood was very boring like, and since the language is one I don’t know making it me just looking at pictures. Overall, La Jetee is a very big film for its time and if it wasn’t for it films like today that have color, movement of character, talking, etc. wouldn’t be able to be made.
